A Terrorist Act Out Of Nowhere
Al-Qaeda is an international terrorist group located world wide. The origins of Al Qaeda is the Soviet war in Afghanistan, but they don’t have just one certain location, they are all over. Al-Qaeda started between August 1988 and late 1889. No one knows the exact date of the start of the whole group. The leader was a man named Osama Bin Mohammed Bin Awad Bin Laden, Osama bin Laden for short. He was Born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Osama Bin Laden was the creator of the group. The new leader is a man named Ayman Mohammed Rabie al-Zawahiri.
Al-Qaeda didn’t really target just one place. They bombed a whole bunch of places (The USA, Turkey, Yemen, Kenya, Tanzania, etc.). The reason for them bombing these places is because they think these places are Kafir. Kafir is a term used to mean unbeliever or disbelief. The term refers to a person that rejects or denies God in Islam. They attacked these places by hijacking airplanes, then sending those airplanes into large buildings, or important buildings. They also had suicide bombers that strap themselves with all types of bombs. Al-Qaeda didn’t mess around.
The first place Al-Qaeda bombed was Aden, Yemen on December 29, 1992. A bomb went off that evening in the Gold Mohur Hotel. There were US troops on their way to Somalia staying at that hotel. They left before the bombs went off though. The bombers then went to Aden Movenpick hotel, where they believed the US troopers went too. The bomb went off prematurely in the parking lot and killed two Australian tourists.
One of the most destructive acts Al-Qaeda did was September 11, 2001. Al-Qaeda hijacked 4 planes. They crashed two planes into the twin towers of The World Trade Center, which went crumbling down minutes after. The next airplane was crashed into the west side of the Pentagon. That airplane partially collapsed the west side of the Pentagon. The last airplane targeted the United States Capitol, but crashed into a field due to passengers trying to take back the airplane. These massive destructions caused the death of over 3,000 people, including the 227 people on board the 4 planes and the 19 hijackers.
People fought back by sending military troops to the Middle East. The U.S Army sent their troops there. They even assassinated the main leader, Osama bin Laden on May 2, 2011.The USA took this seriously and changed a lot of rules in America. Nobody could go past the gates at airports unless they are catching a plane. They also passed The Patriot Act that let the government just search anyones home at will. They can just go to your house and search your home if they suspect something of you. A good example of The Patriot Act happened after the Boston Marathon bombing, they searched a Saudi man’s apartment to see if he was linked to the bombing. He had no part in the whole thing, but they suspected him so they just went up and searched his apartment.
